Astro A40TR Static and having to talk louder in the mic

I've had the Astro A40TR Xbox one edition for only a period of 5 months and now my mic has been not working has usual. For a premium product this shouldn't be an issue, and don't get my wrong the actual headset and audio is wonderful but just the mic. The inline mute cable mute button only works when I move the cable a certain way (the way the leds on the mixamp pro turns red). It just makes this awful static/crackling noise occasionally that I have not control of whatsoever.
